“Life in Cold Blood,” a new TV series telling the story of reptiles and amphibians, will premiere Sunday, April 13, at 8 p.m. EST on Animal Planet.
The series, hosted by Sir David Attenborough, discusses the latest scientific research and employs advanced filming techniques to transform the public’s understanding of herps and reveal them in a new light – as dramatic, social, warm, sophisticated and passionate animals The TV show follows the book by the same name, which offers insight into the world of herps – the first vertebrate creatures to venture forth millions of years ago, yet today include species that are the most at risk for extinction.
In the illustrated book, Attenborough explains that herps have changed little from their ancestors, while demonstrating how they have adapted and evolved into diverse forms.
He also raises awareness of the threats of global warming and other man-made environmental changes pose to many herps.
Attenborough has hosted award-winning natural history documentaries and is author of Life in the Undergrowth, The Life of Mammals, and Life on Air: Memoirs of a Broadcaster.
