The Phoenix Herpetological Society will host interactive tours of its facility around the same time frame that the Insight and Fiesta Bowl college football games come to town in Arizona. The 3 hour tours will run beginning at 1 p.m. every day Dec. 26-31 and Jan. 2-7. PHS has more than 1,400 native and non-native reptiles, including snakes, lizards, alligators, crocodiles, and desert and Galapagos tortoises.
Of notable interest is the newly opened "Venom Room" an all glass enclosure that houses one of the largest collections of venomous snakes in the western United States. Opened during Thanksgiving weekend last month, the Venom Room houses 82 species and subspecies of venomous reptiles, including a black mamba and the Aruba Island rattlesnake, a critically endangered species.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 3 through 18. Children 3 and under are free. To schedule a tour, contact PHS at 480-513-4377 and select option 4, or email Debbie@phoenixherp.com.
