Always Do Your Research

Research the reptile or amphibian species first.

Thoroughly research the needs of any reptile and amphibian before you decide to buy it and bring it home. Knowing about the species' native habitat and diet is the best first step to setting up a successful captive environment for it at home. Read all you can on the subject and ask reptile breeders and pet store employees for their advice and recommendations when deciding on which new herp to buy.
