Feeding Crickets

A quick tip on including crickets in your reptile's diet.

When feeding crickets to insect-eating reptiles and amphibians, don't overfeed so there are still crickets wandering the cage a couple of hours after feeding. Crickets have been known to nibble the toes of delicate herp species, causing damage or even loss of digits.

Same holds true when feeding rodents to snakes or other reptiles. If they don't eat the rodent right away remove the rodent. They can leave nasty bites that can be fatal.

I found that out the hard way a few years ago. A cricket started to chew a hole in the back of one of my lizards. Luckily, it healed itself within a few sheds with a little dab of neosporin.
