The Wolf's Wedge Skink

The Wolf's wedge skink is a cryptozoic, semifossorial skink with an elongate body, covered in smooth, shiny scales and reduced limbs.

By Mark O'Shea

Distribution: Papua New Guinea (Buka Island).

Habitat: Coconut plantations and rainforests.

Diet: Presumably small arthropods.

Max. length: Not known.

Reproductive strategy: Oviparous, clutch size unknown.

The Wolf's wedge skink is a cryptozoic, semifossorial skink with an elongate body, covered in smooth, shiny scales and reduced limbs. Originally reported from Buka Island, North Solomons Province and Papua New Guinea, the specimens from Karkar island appear to represent the same or a similar species. In the husk pile it “swims” through the loose fibrous soil resulting from the breakdown of husk pile material.
