This is really helpful! I wanted a pet reptile but I couldn't decide on one. After reading about the reptiles I wanted I decided on Russian Tortoise.

When I got my first emerald tree boas, I bought parakeets for them (at $9.00 apiece!). Then I got smart and started trapping small birds for them. Then I got even smarter and started feeding them rats. The rats were a lot cheaper than parakeets and not as messy as trapping the birds. Now parakeets love me and rats hate me!

BTW, a "common" boa and a red-tail boa are the same species. The name "red-tail" was coined by dealers who wanted to charge a higher price for the prettier red-tail boas.

Boas and pythons (Burmese, retics, etc.) eat the same things and their care is pretty much the same. They mainly eat rodents, so they don't need separate care sheets. But the larger constrictors need larger food items, such as rabbits or even piglets.

Be careful with large constrictors (over 6 or 7 feet in length). They can kill you, and they're not good at letting go. I had a 10-foot retic some years ago and I never handled him without having an experienced friend with me.
