Momma worked today...
...but that didn't stop me from having my natural sunlight therapy. I was out for at least 5 hours, with Nana watching me closely. Mommy will be off tomorrow, so for sure I'll get more sun. I'm loving it! So this is how sunbathing feels like. I've been inside most of the time for a whole year. Mommy really hopes that my shell will be smooth soon. She saw some horrific photos of tortoises with deformed shells. She would die if that ever happened to me!
Today Zorro the pug turned four. All he got was a low fat dog biscuit, cuz he's on a diet. Most of us in this house hold should cut down their food intake (mommy is on top of that list), except for me ofcourse...I'm but a growing baby tortoise...LOL!
Mommy and daddy will be celebrating their ninth anniversary soon. They'll be going to their little Hearst Castle getaway from 9/20 to 9/22. Poor Nana...she only had us four legged ones the last time they went on vacation. This time, she'll have the kids, too!

MOMMA's too CHEAP!!!
I'm outside again! It's in the 80s, and I'm lovin' it! Mommy deided not to spend $ on the tortoise playpen. It's kinda small, and at the rate I'm growing, it would be 60 hard earned dollars down the drain.
She's using the dog crate that belongs to Bella the english bully(check out the pics on my page). The bottom is kinda open, so I get to walk on the grass. The only downside is, to enjoy the grass, I have to be at the front yard. They cemented the back because of the dogs. Mommy is not comfortable leaving me in the front by myself too long. Somebody might steal me (daddy just laughed at her). Zabi the akita no longer uses his giant crate, so mommy will put that together, buy some grass at the pet store for my bedding, and leave me there at the back yard (away from the dogs, of course). I'll be spending most of my day outside when it's sunny and warm.
About the calcium supplement, some sites said daily, some weekly. Also, is D3 necessary? Mommy read on line that it was when a tortoise was housed indoor. She's really confused now!

ONE WHOLE YEAR TODAY!!!
I came home exactly a year ago today on September 6, 2008. Mommy and family went to the exact Reptile Expo in Anaheim today, where she bought me. Thank goodness mommy didn't bring any new reptile home. The one thing I require is undivided attention.
Mommy had a little chat with a lady who sold tortoises at the expo. She found out that calcium supplement springkled on my food should be given weekly, not daily like she's been doing. The lady also told her that a healthy tortoise should have relatively smooth shell, not bumpy like mine (see my profile pic). She also said the most likely cause of that was lack of natural sunlight. So, I've been outside since she got home from the expo...she really freaked out, thinking that I was sick. But, beside the bumpy shell, I seem pretty healthy. I eat good, and I'm active...well, as active as I can possibly be in my small enclosure. That's why mommy is really considering buying me an outdoor house ($99.99) or playpen ($59.99). She can't decide, so she posted the pics on my page. What do you think? I do need natural sun light.
Mommy bought me cactuses and cactus fruits from the expo, so she gave me some after I exercised outside. I forgave her for disturbing my nap.
Jacob, mommy's oldest child, got another milipede he named Goldie. Now he has two of them. They also saw many cute bearded dragons. They were pretty affordable, but the thought of having to take care of two enclosures just freaked her out. I didn't know that mommy had that much sense in her...LOL!

I MISSED YOU SO!!!
FINALLY!!! I get to blog to my dear friends! Well...actually, mommy helps me a lot. She was MIA for a LOOOOOONG time! I visited RC everyday while she was gone...I just couldn't type with these stubby feet of mine...LOL!
The family had a great Summer break. They spent three nights at the Disneyland Hotel, and then five nights at San Diego. Mommy was broke after those three days at Disneyland! The food was sooooooo expensive!
The family still misses ZIGGY the frenchie. Mommy adopted two female dogs...Zina the frenchie and Bella the english bully. This is a full house and it is always busy around here.
As for me, I'm growing big fast! Mommy really needs to plan my new enclosure soon. I eat twice as much and I can barely fit into my tunnel now.
The Anaheim Reptile Expo is going on this weekend. Mommy is debating whether or not to go to the expo. The Pomona county fair is her other choice, but the fair will go on for a month. You know how weak my mommy is...if she goes to the expo, she might come back with another tortoise. I dread that thought! Jacob, mommy's oldest son, does want another milipede. The other one they got for him is thriving well.

HELLO
Sorry I haven't been by sooner, things here have been crazy with taking care of the puppies and everything else.
I just pulled the baby senegals this morning to start handfeeding.Which will give me even more work.
I was on yesterday but the RC wouldn't let me blog...what's up with that! It seems to be like that on all the channels.
Everyone is doing great! My son is getting so excited to put up his very first herp up on the RC. My husband will help him get the page up tomorrow.Come visit me, Sliver & Stardust.

LIFE MUST GO ON...
I'm finally back. I was off for over a week, because we lost our frenchie Ziggy. I found her dead at our back yard. I was devastated! I cried so much...it was like losing a child! She was all swollen with blood coming out of her nose and mouth. The vet said it looked like a severe allergic reaction called an anaphylactic shock. She was probably bitten by an insect or stung by a bee. She was barely one year old...
We said our good byes...she lives in my heart forever...
On the lighter side, SB is getting HUGE! I just fished her out of the tunnel to soak her, and she could barely fit into her tub! I swear that I just soaked her a couple of days ago, and she wasn't this big.
We'll be going to our vacation on 8/11. Three nights at Disneyland Hotel and five nights at San Diego. Something to look forward to...
The two older ones are still in their summer camp, having lots of fun. The latest good movie I saw was Harry Potter.

HOT! HOT! HOT!!!
We went to my monthly pug meetup this morning and we only stayed for 30 minutes. It was just too hot for the short nosed dogs. My Frenchie was making all kinds of nasal noises. There wasn't enough shade at the dog park.
We're going to Disneyland (AGAIN!) tomorrow. They open from 8 AM until midnight daily all summer, so we'll be there bright and early. That means I have to get up at the crack of dawn. Getting three kids ready and out of the house is a big time consuming job.
I was about to feed SB some fruits this morning. Good thing I didn't. I went on line and found out that fruits are not good for Leopard tortoises. I saw some photos of sick tortoises with deformed shells...it broke my heart! Bad diet can cause all kinds of problems. I don't think I feed SB accordingly (their diet should be 70% grass), but she seems to be healthy. I tried giving her grass, but she wouldn't eat it.

OMG!!!
I was gone for a LOOOOOOOOONG time!!! Let's see...where do I start...LOL! We got annual passes to DISNEYLAND, so the kids are happy...I am, too! As mature (not old) as I am, when I'm at the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH, I become a kid again.
My two older ones are in SUMMER CAMP...WOOHOO!!! We were the first ones to be there on their first day, with my face pressed to the glass door...OPEN! OPEN! (like the MERVYN's commercial). My four year old will start his SUMMER FOR TOTS next week. It will only be twice a week, two hours at a time...better than nothing.
Then, I got sick and felt BLAH! But I didn't call off on FOURTH of JULY cuz the money was too good. BTW, HAPPY FOURTH! Better late than never.
SB is good. She's getting really big (check out the new pics). I'll have to get her a new tub the next time I soak her. She occupied that whole GLAD tupperware. Her shell has more yellow now. Her shell patterns are still the same size. There are more spaces in between them...guess her shell is stretching.

RIP my best pal PETRIE 106651...
I HAVE A MESSAGE I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU...THIS IS THE OWNER OF MY BEST PAL PETRIE:
So I've finally come back on RC to tell everyone what happened. Little Petrie passed away this past Saturday night. It was the worst day of my life. I want to educate people on what happened so NO ONE will have to go through what we did. I know Petrie would want the same thing and she'd want all of her friends on RC to know. Petrie was extremely calcium deficient from laying so many eggs. (She laid 4) I knew she would be. I have my pet store on speed dial so I call them constantly when things happen. They told me to make sure she eats and gets enough calcium so I made sure that I had food in her cage at all times for her. But it wasn't enough. She wouldn't eat. Knowing her history of not eating for weeks, sometimes months at a time, I thought she'd eat when she was ready. Well, it was too late. Laying eggs takes so much out of a reptile I didn't even realize and no body told me. She ended up going into a comatose state and dying within hours or me taking her to the hospital. The thing with reptiles is they don't show any signs of distress until it's too late. Petrie was fine, hopping around and on my shoulder just hours earlier. The doctor said this was the most common reason that people take their reptiles in. My advice to everyone out there: if your reptile lays eggs and doesn't eat even 2 days afterwards, TAKE HER IN to have her get a dose of calcium or whatever it is she may need. Petrie had another 10 years with me (at least) so please if your reptile lays eggs, be AWARE and make sure they get enough of the calcium and the vitamins that they need. Please forward this on to everyone you know. RIP little girl. There will never be another dragon like you...Come visit me, SPONGELINA BALLERINA~Brrrr. ..it's gettin' chilly!!.

READY FOR THIS???
WE HAD A BLAST AT THE SAN DIEGO REPTILE EXPO!!! We got our son a milipede, and I got myself...NOTHING!!! GOTCHA! Lots of beautiful tortoises there but when SB gets big I don't even know what to do with her...so getting another tortoise wouldn't be a good idea. What I really wanted was a BEARDIE. Those are so cute! I found one I liked for $89.99! And it was a BIG FAT one...just the way I like them. But...Mr. CRANKY said NO, NO, NOOOOOO!!!! Beside, the thought of taking care of another reptile enclosure is not pleasant. I take good care of my little tortoise, so I put a lot of time and energy into her.
I got cheap coconut shavings and food for SB...half priced! What I was looking for was fresh cactuses, but they had none.
My son Jacob named his new pet KIRBY, although everybody else calls it DUMB-DUMB...LOL!
The next reptile expo will be in September at the Anaheim Convention Center. Hopefully, I'll get myself a beardie then. The plan is to get my hubby into it, so he'll be taking care of the enclosure while I'll be enjoying the beardie :) I know...WISHFUL THINKING!
We went to see "UP" in 3D today...FINALLY! It was a great movie...although our four year old got restless in the middle of it, and we had to stuff him with popcorn and soda.
Believe or not...I'm still OFF tomorrow! Two days in a row not having to go to work...that's RARE for me. The plan is to see TRANSFORMERS, but we'll only be taking our oldest son. We'll also be checking on a junior drum set for Jacob. He's been taking lessons, and he really enjoys it. He's good at it, too.

HOW LONG WAS I GONE???
I lost track but it was too darn LOOOOOOONG!!!! Between work, pets, kids and ...did you hear about my newly added STRESSOR??? GETTING READY FOR VACATION! MAN...I'm telling you, I have to do everything around here! Well...except for cleaning the house, doing the chores, laundry, etc, etc...so I better not complain! LOL!
I'm shopping around, surfing the net for good deals on hotels. We've decided to spend seven nights in San Diego (8/10 to 8/17), followed by three nights at the Disneyland Hotel. I have not found any that I like with reasonable price. On top of that, I have to make sure we'll have these kids entertained through out our vacation.
TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY...REPTILE EXPO AT SAN DIEGO! Our oldest son is getting a pet millipede...and a male leopard tortoise friend for SB...Shhhhhh...hubby doesn't know yet! Just kidding! LOL!

Sorry I haven't been on sooner. This week has been crazy ...so far. We got a new herp over the weekend and lost one too. Wizard went to rainbow bridge on Sunday. I sat here crying most of the day, it was a total shock to our family

FINALLY...
I get to blog! I worked my usual three day weekend. We missed Father's Day. I left my hubby his gift on our bed. Since he works the night shift and I work during the day, when we work the same days, we don't see each other at all (that's what makes our marriage work...LOL!). He loved the gifts...a pair of camouflage crocs clogs and a coffee mug personalized with the kids' pic. We took him to breakfast this morning. The poor guy was a zombie after two nights at work.
I'm taking the kids to Legoland this coming Thursday. It will be a nice sunny warm day. We're going with my friend and her two kids. We'll have five kids all together...WISH US LUCK! We really need it.
SB is more active...thank goodness! The last thing I need is a sick tortoise. Since I'm off today, I observed what she did the whole morning after I turned on her UVB light and gave her salad. Here it is: It took her 30 minutes to slowly wake up. Then, she took her time to get to her dish (another 30 minutes...the good life of SB the tortoise...LOL!). She nibbled here and there for about 20 minutes then she walked around. She did this about three cycles. After that, she went to her dish and tried to soak herself, but it is now too small for her (gotta remind myself to get a bigger one). Then, she took a long nap. I ran errands, and when I came back around 03:15 pm, she was eating again! You know...I don't mind being a tortoise...LOL!

I'M LOVIN' IT!!!
My iPhone that is! It does so many things. The problem is, it doesn't come with a manual. Just like a computer, you kinda have to figure it out yourself.
Finally, it is getting warmer...high in the mid 80s. I like it cool, so I hope it won't get any hotter than this...wishful thinking! With global warming, anything goes.
With this warm weather, I don't have to keep SB's heat lamp on all day. She is still sluggish, waking up only to eat. But other than that, she seems healthy.
The kids are driving me nuts! Their summer camp won't start until the first week of July to the beginning of August...I CAN'T WAIT! Then, I'll have my three week vacation...WOOHOO!!!
I'll be working my three day weekend, so a vote for you and have a great weekend. Later.

The weather here just stinks! The sky looks like rain anytime now...great!
Pheonix came home on Thursday, we fed him on Sunday..so far he's keeping it down.
They told us to leave him in his cage all week. That's going to be hard,we love to show love to all our pets!
When they soaked him he left a gaint poop.We're starting to think he had constipation.
We have a house and would never rent ...too many rules! We only have 10 years left to pay on our house. I can't wait until our house is payed off.

OMG!!!
I'm sooooo mad at mommy! This time I refused to accept her excuse! OK...busy with the kids, grocery shopping, working...FINE! But playing with her new iPhone...a NO NO!!! My social life on RC is far more important than her little electronic gadget...but apparently, she didn't think so! She said she was just too excited, because she'd been wanting the iPhone since it first came out years ago, and daddy finally said yes.
Anywho, how are you? Long time no blog. It's real humid and way too cool to be a June day. Mommy thinks that's why I've been a bit sluggish than usual...sleeping in until late. Why is that when the humans snooze until late, nobody thinks it's the humidity or the weather? Gimme a BREAK! Why do they want me to wake up at the break of DAWN when I have a whole lot of NUTHIN' to do??? But, I'm still eating like a piglet, so no worry.
The family spent almost all day at home. They're watching the MBA final...go LAKERS!

:) I'M STILL SB...
Mommy and I both love the initial SB, so my full name is now SPONGELINA BALLERINA...SB it is. I'm growing like a weed...you won't believe how big I've gotten in merely nine months! Mommy says that I get bigger each time she soaks me, and she does it two to three times a week. Imagine that! I think I'm going through a growth spurt. No wonder I eat like there's no tomorrow. My shell has more yellow now, mainly in between those patterns of crown, heart, fried drum stick, etc...LOL! I'll have mommy take a pic of me one of these days and you'll see the difference. Mommy is working tomorrow, but she'll be off on Saturday. She's taking the kids to her pug meetup in the morning, then to a kid's birthday party in the afternoon. Sounds like a busy day to me...she is probably better off working. She gets more rest than she does at home. Here's a vote and I see ya later. I AM A GIRL...!!!
It is still me! Mommy just wasn't sure what I was, so she assumed that I was a boy...NOT!!! Since my pal PETRIE suggested that I shouldn't change my name drastically, I picked SPONGELINA~pronounced SPON-GE-LINA (one of many names derived from SB that she listed...SPONGEBOBINA was good, too!). It is perfect because mommy's one and only daughter's name is ANGELINA! She was thrilled when she found out about my new name.
Now that I'm a lot bigger, the edge of the shell that meets my tail is definitely shaped like a "U" (instead of a "V"), which means that I'm a girly girl! Mommy swears that it was shaped like a "V" before! Yeah, right...she just wasn't paying attention.
If it changes back to a "V", I'll let you know (LOL)...and back to SB I'll be. Now my initial is SE.
No more confusion...what a relief! Mommy is working tomorrow, and a boring charge nurse class on Wednesday. She'll be off on Thursday, but it will be one of those super busy days. Here's a vote and later! SE~QUEEN of LOVE.Come visit me, SPONGELINA BALLERINA~Brrrr. ..it's gettin' chilly!!.

It was a nice cool day...
...perfect for our dog walk. We had a blast and we'll definitely do it again next year. I raised $167...a bit less than last year, but that was expected, considering the difficult economic times we're going through. Our akita, Zabi, was so popular. There was only one other akita at the walk. I guess they are not the kind to mingle around other dogs. He did surprisingly well. He almost pulled my arm off, and growled a couple of times, but he didn't do anything I couldn't handle. We did the full three mile walk. Even Zorro the pug did it without having a heart attack. I guess because it wasn't as warm this year as last year.
Here's a vote and enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'll enjoy mine tomorrow at work :(

Another short blog...BLAH!
I worked three days straight, off one day (tomorrow), and another three days!!! I think I've made a BOOBOO when I plotted my schedule. I have to get up early tomorrow. I'm taking my two older kids and dogs to The WALK for a good cause. I raised money for the local shelter. This is the second year I've done this and I LOVE IT! LOL i ended up not doing anything no ride or BBQ i felt like alone time and just hung out in my room all day watching the first 2 seasons of House (best show ever LOL) then fed all my snakes on tuesday which is always fun. ii hope your moving into a bigger and better place i have been looking to move recently to here is a vote have a good week Come visit me, hoggie, brutus, bonnie, uro, shy, leos, sissors, ajo, hondo, feild, ball & big red.

THE MOVIE WAS GREAT!!!
WOW...two great movies in a row! First, STAR TREK, then TERMINATOR SALVATION we saw tonight. Hubby took me for a date to celebrate my birthday. We went to Lucille's BBQ for dinner at VICTORIA GARDEN (an outdoor mall), then, while waiting for the 7 pm show, we...or shall I say...I, went shopping. We spent a great amount of time in Victoria Secret and Sephora (the ladies know what kinda stores these are...well, I'm sure the guys are well aware of Victoria Secret as well :). He didn't whine at all...for a change! It was my birthday celebration. I had a great time!

Hello
Things here have been crazy with all the yard work and my sons baseball game
I have Phoenix for about a month now.
My husband loves the new job because it gives him something different to do at work..not the same old thing every day.
My husband has off this whole week. Looks like I won't be getting much done...hehehe. He loves to go away,he hates too just sit around at home.
We just stayed home for Memorial day
We fed Phoenix in his tank on Saturday, so we wouldn't have to move him after he ate..in hope he would keep it down. He did eat to only bring it back up the next morning. So much for that idea!

Celebrating my BIRTHDAY...
...at work as usual. I think I've been working on my birthday for the past 5 to 6 years. It's better...less painful...LOL! I got a nice crystal pendant, a small wallet and a $40 Victoria Secret gift card from my father in law. I'm waiting for the rest of my gifts :)

GOTTA TALK...GOTTA TALK...GOTTA TALK...
Those short blogs drove me nuts! I'm a very talkative person (I'm sure you've noticed that by now!). I attended a class today on pain management...pretty interesting and definitely applied to my line of work. We had Filipino food for lunch...yummy and authentic! If you live around Los Angeles, I recommend it...it's called "NOI". Just google it.
Back to work I go tomorrow, and off on Friday. We're planning to take our little boy out for "parents and me" day. The two older ones will be in school. Then, I go straight into my long weekend working...all the way to Memorial Day. I get paid double time and a half...so why not! We're having another POTLUCK...for the holiday and for all the May babies (mainly ME, MYSELF and I...LOL!). I'll be working on my birthday :( but, hubby will be taking me out on Tuesday the 26th. It will be a surprise. I already got two nice purses, and I ordered a pearl ring from QVC (my favorite shopping channel). It's a back order merchandise, and will be shipped to me in August.
